If you are ever in a position to help someone and it's something you can do without any inconvenience..do it. There's this feeling of fulfillment that comes with helping others genuinely. And if you intentionally make life difficult for others, rest assured your day of reckoning
Is very close. If you've become a Hitler over other people...other people's pain especially when it comes from you gives you joy, be rest assured, you will reap your own pain in a million folds.
Money and power magnifies whatever bad behavior an individual had before.
I was discussing with someone recently...who told me how university lecturers in Nigeria victimise their students. Intentionally failing them because it is unheard of...'how can you get an A in my subject, that is the faculty rule'. Lecturers making their lives difficult
Students wanting to commit suicide because the lecturers go out of their way to fail them when they refuse their sexual advances. Fanatic lecturers sending students out of class because they didn't cover their hair properly and their skirts were not long enough.
I shudder at what our education system is fast becoming. I read a post on Facebook where people gave their experiences about university lecturers and how their lives were miserable because of these lecturers. I wept after reading that post.
If you are one of them, making another person's life difficult because of some preconceived notions that you have....because a student said she'll not have sex with you...be rest assured that you will not end well. It is not a curse.
Mentorship is so alien in Nigeria.
If you have gone through this and you are in a position of authority now, there's a tendency to be like those people if you're not careful. Don't let them win. Be kind to others and do your best to help other people. The world would be a far better place.
This also applies to the medical training in Nigeria. The residency training...We need to do better. I have heard horror tales of what some younger colleagues went through with their senior colleagues. Initially I used to think they were just woven tales.
Let's break that chain of oppression today. Be civil and kind to your colleagues whether senior or junior. That position of power will not be there forever. If you are stripped of that power you have, will you still be a respected and loved human being?
That resident that you oppressed today, that house officer, may be in a position to help you later in life. Don't hurt people intentionally to the point that they make retribution and revenge their mission in life. We need to do better and break that chain....
I leave you with a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that I live my life by..
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty;
To find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This, my friend, is to have succeeded'

This quote and the poem 'Desiderata'
I absolutely love them.
Life is hard enough already. Don't be the cause of another human being's misery.....
