(4/7) These men are not on the fringes; they are powerful voices and proponents of scientific self-regulation.
(5/7) In the 21st century, an era of ultra-powerful digital and biotechnologies, how can we trust that ostensibly progressive scientists will resist elite visions of human improvement based on eugenic ideas?
(6/7) Eugenics hasn’t gone anywhere, and the potential for misuse of gene-editing technologies, like CRISPR, makes these ideas more dangerous than ever.
(7/7) This story makes two things clear: 1 – It’s beyond time to ban heritable gene editing. 2 – We must awaken from collective amnesia about our eugenic past and recognize the persistence of techno-eugenic temptations.
