the dsa national convention passed resolution 9, the formation of a national working group on antifascism, by a margin of less than 30 votes.
here is the text of the comment i gave in support of the resolution during debate.
i’ve spent a long time trying to reason with people on the grounds of the safety of their comrades. this was an attempt to make them understand that any political organizing in 2019 must be informed by antifascism to be effective.
this resolution isn’t about making chapters engage with fascism. it’s about helping them stay safe in organizing environments where fascism engages with them. it’s about keeping us safe so the entire big tent can keep doing the work they are passionate about.
on the drive down to atlanta, i stopped in greensboro to visit the site of the greensboro massacre. the klan didn’t kill “antifa,” they killed communists. communists and socialists are the natural and eternal enemy of fascists. you can’t hide from that reality.
