If Saud al-Qahtani is dead, let’s not just remember him as the ringleader of the team who murdered @JKhashoggi. He also, on behalf of MbS, supervised the torture of women’s rights activists, including @LoujainHathloul, who he personally threatened with rape and death.
Just a few weeks ago Loujain was offered freedom if she retracted her accusations against al-Qahtani and others. She refused, saying that would would constitute a cover-up. She wanted justice. businessinsider.com/loujain-al-hat…
That may be yet another thing the Crown Prince has taken from her.

Anyway, here are @saudq1978 and MbS in happier times, when they were literally getting away with murder. Not pictured, but also involved: @jaredkushner and his father-in-law.

Watched Footloose for the first time last night. I have some thoughts.

Also, I’d love to know how the powerhouse Beaumont gymnastics team did that season. If they could afford to cut Kevin Bacon, they must be a powerhouse. As you’d expect in a small town.

In January, I wrote a thread about meeting @LoujainHathloul and Fahad Albutairi. Since then, I've been involved in advocating for Loujain's release from prison, where she has been held and tortured for over a year and where, today, she spends her 30th birthday... #FreeLoujain
The failure of the US government to push for the release of Loujain and other human rights' activists (or for the punishment of those responsible for the murder of @JKhashoggi) is one of many stains left on the world by the Trump administration.
Members of Congress have pushed for sanctions, called for justice. Meanwhile, Trump and his family make side deals with MbS, taking payoffs for nuclear tech and weapons. Jared Kushner is on his way to KSA right now. Will he mention Loujain? Unlikely. There's no money in that.

THREAD: I’m at Houston Park in #ElPaso. The parents of a child killed in the #Parkland shooting had planned for weeks to unveil a mural here, on their son’s b-day (Aug. 4), in honor of gun violence victims. Just a day prior, the #ElPaso shooting happened. @azcentral @elpasotimes
Manuel and Patricia Oliver founded Change the Ref after their son Joaquin’s death. Today would’ve been his 19th b-day. A press release sent several days ago said the mural will commemorate their son’s life + the lives of all those lost to gun violence, + violence toward migrants.
“We are heartened that this has been recognized for what it is - a racially-motivated terrorist attack on our safe and tranquil community. The shooter came into our community because we are an Hispanic community + because we have immigrants here,” says @RepEscobar.

#ElPaso. #Dayton. A fucking garlic festival. It's been a (yet another) bloody week in America. And yet despite the death toll, the @GOP is once again deflecting the conversations we NEED to have about guns and white nationalism to video games and mental illness.
As a combat veteran, someone who loves video games, and someone suffering from mental illness, I have a LOT to say about this. So buckle the fuck up. I don't have time to fucking sugar coat anything.
I'm a former Marine. I saw some pretty nasty fuckin' shit in Fallujah '04. We all did. I earned my combat action ribbon through numerous firefights and patrols in Fallujah, Mahmoudiyah, Zaidan, and Ramadi. Almost died for it.

Pattern of white supremacist inspired attacks is remarkably similar, but directionally diffferent. Jihadists were top-down driven (Directed, Networked, Inspired) But these domestic attacks are bottom-up (Inspired, now leading to Networked)

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
