allowing cars to cross the pedestrian mall at 4th street was NOT RECOMMENDED BY STAFF OR THE PLANNING COMMISSION. adding cars to a pedestrian walkway was a bad idea forced on us by the downtown business association.
it’s time to close the crossings. it’s time to stop letting downtown businesses decide the landscape. a pedestrian mall is for pedestrians, not cars.
you’d think the fact that someone was murdered and dozens of lives were destroyed would have sparked a larger conversation about the vehicle crossings on charlottesville’s pedestrian mall, but it’s never been seriously discussed
