It’s also mad. Quite apart from its blatant contempt for the voters by removing their chance to stop no deal.
First, it adds to the already daunting complexity of no deal preparation the constraints of a government in purdah (affecting what civil servants and ministers can do) and distracted by campaigning rather than focusing on the problems.
Second, it invites the Commons to unite round an alternative PM so as to force Johnson to resign (rather than just voting no confidence in a way that leads to an election).
That route is open to the Commons. See prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/how-c… And threatening to snatch away from voters the chance to stop no deal could be the provocation that leads the Commons down that route.
