1/ Trump says these monstrous ICE raids in MS, which have snatched parents from their children are meant to serve as a "deterrent" to undocumented migration. But that's a lie, and it's easy to prove. The raids are about racist cruelty for its own sake. How do we know? Simple..
2/ If the only goal was deterrence, rather than bigotry and sadism, we could pass a law fining employers who hire such folks $1 million per violation, or haul the owners off in cuffs. Not saying we should, but we could, without traumatizing desperate folks and families...
3/ Of course we would never do that: a) because we don't treat wealthy business owners the way we treat poor people; b) because we don't treat mostly white people the way we treat brown people, and c) bc Trump himself has regularly used such labor...
4/ From a deterrence angle, if punishment fell on the owners, hiring undocumented persons would drop dramatically thus "deterring" border crossing by those looking 4 work...Again, not saying we should do this (there are other problems this would cause) but it would work...
5/ The fact that Trump's "deterrence" requires punishment & cruelty towards the most desperate in the immigration/labor equation is just proof of the racism and classism of he & his cult. They get off on this. Stephen Miller is likely sitting around mocking crying children today.
