Castro, 8:35: "You just two minutes ago they would have to buy in. Are you forgetting what you said two minutes ago?"
At 8:32 Biden also said that "if you lose the job from your insurance company, from your employer, you automatically can buy into this."

Castro's larger attack though was what his plan says. "You require them to opt in and I would not require them to opt in."
What Team Castro says about this moment: as a matter of practice, Biden’s automatic opt-in really isn’t so automatic. Requires interaction with other government services to be enrolled, pointing to Biden’s own website (their emphasis)

As I first wrote several weeks ago would happen, the Democratic debates have restructured the polling, putting, as I predicted, @KamalaHarris and @ewarren within striking distance of @JoeBiden.

Biden 22%
Harris 17%
Warren 15%
Sanders 14%
Buttigieg 4%

Months of assertions that #Biden was "inevitable" have been eviscerated. Unable to stand up to #Harris at the debates, Biden appeared tired, confused and unprepared, despite having been kept away from major events for weeks by his handlers. Harris has been campaigning daily.
#Warren won the first debate handily, with only @JulianCastro and @CoryBooker offering any other strong moments in the two hour debate.
The new rankings put #Harris and Warren in the lead for most electable and many are already talking about Harris/Warren as the 2020 ticket.

"There's so much racism," he said. "Their resumes and other applications will be rejected because of their names."
2/ I said this was a classic example of racism-by-proxy: "I'M not racist, but OTHER PEOPLE are … and we should all cater to them."

"But I'm just being realistic!" he countered. "Racists won't change, so black parents should give their kids race-neutral names."
3/ I said racists won't change if we never challenge their racism.

"If we accept racism as an immutable fact and act as if we must all adapt our lives to fit their biases," I said, "we help perpetuate racism. We practice racism-by-proxy."

Now that #JoeBiden is running I thought I’d share my Biden story. Because I have one.

After college, my first job was for an anti-nuke project run by Alan Cranston, a retired 4-term senator from CA who’d been Democratic whip & a presidential primary candidate in ‘84.
Alan, as he insisted on being called, died suddenly on Dec 31, 2000. Though he’d been out of office since ‘92, he was a giant of California politics, and his funeral was a bit of an event. I and my colleague, Zack, worked full-time to help the family organize it.
We tracked which of his senate colleagues planned to attend. In the end, only Joe Biden and John Kerry came. Not Dianne Feinstein or Barbara Boxer. Just two friends who respected Alan for supporting vets while opposing the Vietnam War. Alan and Biden had come in together in ‘68.
