Reporting from Srinagar, Kashmir's largest city, @sameeryasir and @suhasiniraj found a population that felt besieged, confused, frightened and furious. All lines to the outside world are severed. ATMs have run dry. Baby food is running out.
@sameeryasir @suhasiniraj The internet, mobile phones, and landlines remain blocked for millions of people in Kashmir. These are some of the first photos to emerge since the crackdown, taken by photographers who worked around the communication blockade and miles of razor wire.

@sameeryasir @suhasiniraj One mother in Kashmir instantly burst into tears when she heard her son's voice on the phone after she waited for hours in a line of 400 people to use the one phone authorities opened at a government office in her neighborhood.

“Are you alive?” she cried.
@sameeryasir @suhasiniraj On Friday, witnesses said Indian forces opened fire on tens of thousands of peaceful demonstrators. 14-year-old Afshana Farooq was nearly trampled in the resulting stampede.

“We were just marching peacefully after prayers,” her father said. “Then they started shooting at us.”
@sameeryasir @suhasiniraj Indian officials circulated photos of open fruit markets on Saturday, saying the valley was returning to normal. But security personnel in Kashmir said protests keep erupting.

"People are so angry," one soldier said. "They are unrelenting and not scared."
