Today's decision re access to the Mount, as that on Jerusalem day, is evidence lending credence to the Palestinian claim of a dangerous erosion of the status quo on the Temple Mount/Haram al Sharif.
1/
Until now, that status quo has meant that the Mount is exclusively a Muslim place of worship, open to respectful and dignified visits by non-Muslims, including Jews, in a manner compatible w/ the decorum on the site, and in coordination with the waqf (Islamic Endowment)
2/
Consequently, until now, Haram al Sharif/teh Temple Mount has been closed to the visits of non-Muslims on Muslim holidays - such as today, Eid al Adha.
3/
No more. The message now sent by Israel is that the Mount is now a "shared" Jewish-Muslim site, like the Ibrahimiya Mosque/the Tomb of the Patriarchs, one of the most volatile and toxic sacred sites on the planet. This is a clear deviation from the established status quo.
4/
The fact that the Muslim worshipers perceive the presence of the Temple Mount movement on Eid al Adha, a movement which unabashedly declares its intent to radically change the status quo as contempt for the sanctity of this day for them, and for the integrity of the site.
5/
You will see disingenuous claims that this is all about freedom of worship.
היתממות.
The Temple Mt movement portrays itself as Rosa Parks revisited.
Rosa Parks did not humiliate the white folks while declaring their intent to throw them of the bus before burning it.
