To recap, since some people still want to argue Cuomo's point (thread):

1. "Fredo" is a singular insult regarding intelligence, not a group insult.
2. Other than being the name of a Godfather character, has nothing to do with being Italian. It has to do with being stupid, weak, and incompetent.
2a. It's been used this way to describe non-Italians, including by me, and including CNN personnel on air.
3. As an American of Italian descent (3rd generation on my mother's side), I'm aware of all the group insults that exist regarding Italians. None of them come close to the N-word. And none of them are "Fredo."
4. Cuomo had every right to be angry over being personally insulted by a provocateur. Let's not lose sight of the fact that this started with a rude jerk who then pulled a Fredo of his own when Cuomo called him out.
5. But you don't threaten physical violence for personal insults, especially in a playground-bully sort of way, when you want to retain your credibility -- and you don't claim to be defending the honor of all Italian-Americans while doing so.

[end of rant]
