Thread on literature reviews, mind mapping strategies, finding "the gap in the literature" and writing paragraphs in your literature review, after having reviewed all those 300 papers and 50 books. I am currently writing a revision of a paper on governing plastics. But...

Since I KonMari’d my room yesterday I reflected on the role of emotions in hoarding behaviour and how it is an easy narrative to say that people are hoarders because of their emotional attachment. There’s some work in #DiscardStudies on upcycling and recycling but...
I think we need to have a deeper rethink of waste production and the role of emotions.

Yesterday, I dumped ALL my cassette tapes.

All of them.

The ones I had since grade school, all the way to when I met my first boyfriend (and the ones I recorded for him too!)
Governing discards also means understanding how we govern ourselves.

I am assiduous about organizing and cleaning, and I hate clutter (the mark of a true #DiscardsStudies scholar or simply a Type A Virgo Upholder?) ... and yet,

I had tapes. I kept my grades from undergrad.

Mini-thread on writing literature reviews and having them as assignments. I am bewildered by the lack of guidance on "how to conduct a literature review" all over the place. And yes, I've read books that are specifically on the literature review. I think this stems from...
... something I identified in an earlier thread and blog post - our students are EXPECTED to know how to do something, when nobody has taught them explicitly what it looks like, how to do it. raulpacheco.org/2018/04/on-the… unless you've taught someone how to do a LR, you can't expect it

1/ Amid Twitter maybe getting rid of the "like" to promote "better dialog" and certainly giving safe haven to nazis and other extremists, a rant:
2/ You probably noticed how, people came forward to say that they'd reported the bomber for violent threats, and Twitter (as always) did nothing and (as always) now apologizes but (as always) won't say how they'll better handle. They won't, and I'll tell you one big reason why.
3/ to address complaints about threats and "improve the dialog" Twitter introduced the "quality filter." You see fewer threats and hate speech. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THERE'S LESS OF IT.
