This is a...bad take.

UNSUBSIDIZED individual market premiums in New York are less than HALF of what they were prior to the ACA when inflation-adjusted.

To clarify: In 2020, NY #ACA-compliant policies will avg. ~$660/mo. In 2010, non-ACA compliant policies (which were far less comprehensive, had annual/lifetime claims caps, etc) apparently averaged $750/mo ($9K/yr). That's $882/mo w/inflation... 1/

...which means that if taken *at face value*, 2020 ACA plans will "only" cost 25% less than Individual Market plans did in 2013, not ~50% less. HOWEVER, that $750/mo is based on a single L.A. Times article at the time, not a detailed actuarial analysis. 2/
A related article by @ReedAbelson & @RoniNYTimes in 2013 suggested the average was around $1,000/mo by then, or around $1,100/mo today. That'd put the $660/mo in 2020 at 40% less: nytimes.com/2013/07/17/hea… 3/
...but again, neither the $750 in 2010 or the $1,000 in 2013 are comprehensive comparisons. Again, the pre-ACA plans in NY DID include guaranteed issue, community rating & some other ACA provisions but were also missing many, so an apples-to-apples comparison is still tricky. 4/
If anyone (@DanCGoldberg, perhaps?) wishes to contact NY DFS to get the hard source data for their "<50% of pre-ACA premiums when adjusted for inflation" statement, I'd be interested in seeing it, but it doesn't seem too unreasonable. /end
