“Rocket science isn’t hard; put enough explosives on it and it *will* go up. The hard part is controlled flight and recovery.”

Explosive bolts aren’t testable “in prod”. You have to test thousands of bolts before the ones going on the launches rocket, and make assumptions based on those success metrics.

Similarities between rocket science and testing:

• Observe, interact, repeat.
• Combining resources and knowledge.
• Acknowledging there can be a point of no return.

• Unknown unknowns
• Ability to adapt to new information
• Navigating conflicts of interest

• Collaboration brings better results
• Establishing boundaries for change
• The urge to “move fast and break things”

Loved hearing @nicolasedgwick’s experience as a physicist in rocketry, and learning about the parallels between rocketry and testing!

“Pick it up and shake it” is a good analogy for exploratory testing 😄

Ooh an interesting thought here about innovation versus iteration. They have different paths forward, different challenges to solve in different ways.
