50 years after a British PM sent troops to Londonderry and the Troubles began is today's PM in danger of provoking a return to violence if he goes ahead with a No Deal Brexit in 78 days?

At 7 on 4 we present the programme from Derry and ask what does it all mean for people here.
We speak to politicians half a century on from The Troubles to see how much has changed and speak to young people who've lived most of their lives in more peaceful times.
Joining @krishgm is Sinn Féin's Elisha McCallion, SDLP leader Colum Eastwood and from the Irish Parliament the Fianna Fail TD for Donegal - just over the border three miles from here - Charlie McConalogue. And from Belfast we have the Ulster Unionist leader Robin Swann.

After last night no politician can whinge about no deal. They've had three years to get thir act together but chose self indulgent tribal bickering instead. Their indecision and indolence doesn't change the fact that the 2016 verdict was leave with or without a deal

By the time we leave, MPs will have had three opportunities to ratify a withdrawal agreement but in the end they're the ones who kicked the can down the road hoping to stop Brexit. If no deal is the outcome then their arrogance is the ultimate culprit.
The ERG have always been massively outnumbered and no deal was always the A50 default so it hasn't been sprung on them. They've had the numbers advantage to push for Efta EEA and they could have united to bring down the government. They've always had the power to avoid no deal.

Thought I'd offer a few thoughts as to how this whole #brexit business is so bitterly divisive to the extent that foreign diplomats liken the divisions as being akin to that preceding civil war
For one thing there simply is no middle ground any soft #brexit means losing any say over the rules we still have to obey maybots duff deal was an attempt at compromise and was blown away as a worse version of the status quo.
#brexit also tears up the democratic social contract for both sides. Any democracy relies on all parties accepting the result of a vote but any campaign must also be conducted within the law

How many times does it have to be said? Ireland is not threatening to use its veto because Ireland doesn't have to use its veto. Ireland IS the EU; the EU is Ireland. The UK's entire #Brexit strategy seems to miss this fundamental point time and time again.
