A thread on some important takeaways for FPL managers after GW1. Having rolled the scanner on the happenings of the football played over the weekend, here are 8 interesting points I came across in my findings which may be of note to FPL managers: #FPL
1) Montoya had the highest number of touches in the final third of all Brighton players in the game against Watford. However, because of his advanced average position and his tendency to play riskier passes in the final third, he only managed a pass accuracy of 68%, which is...
...why he had the worst minutes per baseline bps ratio of all Brighton defenders. This is similar to what we experienced with Doherty last season, who would hardly get any bps for a CS if not supplemented with his attacking returns.
2) Digne had a higher position than all players barring Sigurdsson in the game vs Palace. He was also sharing set pieces with Sigurdsson. It was interesting to note that Coleman managed 4 more touches in the final third than Digne and had Everton’s best chance to score.
3) Kelly was voted MOTM by almost 18% of Palace fans on their forums. I’m not for a second saying that he’ll be nailed for the foreseeable future but one to keep an eye on if such performances continue. Lundstram in the meanwhile, was playing in an advanced role on the right...
for Sheffield Utd and created two big chances for his forwards to score.
4) In the game vs Norwich, Trent created two big chances (and had the highest xA of all players in the league last week) while Robertson despite not materializing his potential into points looked promising. He recorded 41 touches in the final third which was the second highest...
...of any defender in the game (highest was Walker Peters) and only one less than Salah.
5) Leander Dendoncker’s average position was at par with Jimenez in the game against Leicester. He also created two chances and was a huge menace from set pieces, having a goal disallowed which further highlights his attacking potential. Jota had the highest average position...
...for Wolves. Leicester surprisingly had 70% possession, which was the highest of all teams in the league.
6) Arsenal had a xGc (expected goals conceded) of 0.39 which was by far the best of all teams in the league. They conceded just 4 shots inside the box and gave up 0 big chances. Far too early to suggest whether this trend of defensive solidity will continue, but pretty...
...surprising given Arsenal’s leaky performances away from home last year.
7) In the game vs Man United, Emerson had the highest number of shots inside the box of all players and even had a big chance to score. Could be a player to monitor when Chelsea’s fixtures improve.
8) Kane had 8 shots, 6 inside the box in the game against Villa – that was the highest of any player in the league. He looked back to being at his lethal best, and Villa managed to concede the highest amount of chances of shots and shots inside the box of any team in the league.
