Here is a #thread on what PMO needs us to believe with their - and Wernick’s - statements about the Dec 19 Wernick-JWR call, about which PMO says it was never briefed (cough):
That the Clerk failed to brief out the one item on his call with JWR (SNC), something the PM was in a mood about, something the PM had spoken to Wernick about that very day. Because holidays.
(This, let’s remember, is the SNC call the PM *asked* the Clerk to make the *day after* PMO (Butts-Telford) hauled in JWR’s chief of staff to tell her to get in line (ie DPA) on SNC)
That the Clerk, who was *just told* by JWR that she was having thoughts of the ‘Saturday Night Massacre’ and feared being shuffled over SNC, didn’t think to mention it to the PM. Because holidays.
That the Clerk, having completely failed in his mission to get JWR in line re: use of DPA for a ‘signature’ company in MTL - a company the gov’t changed the law of the land for - didn’t think to mention it to PM. Because holidays.
That the Clerk, having been told - in no uncertain terms - that JWR saw her role as protecting PM from making the catastrophic mistake of interfering politically in the judicial system, didn’t think to mention it to the PM. Because holidays.
That no-one in the PMO (to reverse the onus) thought to ask Wernick about the outcome of the call they asked him to make on an issue their boss cared intensely about. For weeks. Because holidays.
That no-one in the PMO thought to ask Wernick about this call even after shuffling JWR out of MOJAG role, even when she told them she thought she was being shuffled out because of SNC.
(This, let’s remember, is the same high-priority file the Clerk told the DM at Justice to prepare the incoming Minister for tout de suite)
That no-one in the PMO thought to ask Wernick about his call with JWR - again, that they had asked him to make - after the story broke in the @globeandmail and caused unholy chaos.
If this is all sounds implausible to you, you’re not alone. If you are a Liberal MP - this is the bs story you are being asked to wear.
It’s hard to conclude anything other than the PMO are LYING through their teeth. And by not contradicting the PMO (even though his statement issued via his lawyer *doesn’t* confirm the PMOs version), the Clerk is complicit in their lie. It’s a sad state of affairs.
