Whenever a person does something good, other people will rush to condemn them.
Perhaps to justify their rage against Greta's integrity, people have invented 3 toxic conspiracy theories:
1. She's a puppet, controlled by people like me
2. She was selected and groomed by a secret funding network
3. She's being controlled and exploited by her parents

All these theories are false. She is what she appears to be: a remarkably independent, determined and gifted teenager, whose autism helps her to see clearly what others struggle to see. I've seldom met anyone who would be less amenable to control and manipulation by others.
The school strike and her subsequent work are her initiatives. Those of us who admire her have helped champion and promote them, but she leads. In fact, she shows qualities of leadership that have been woefully lacking for far too long.
Greta shrugs off the toxic theories and the extraordinary volume of hate she receives from much older people with remarkable dignity and calm. But I fear for her. Those who are the targets of such theories often become the targets of violence.
All those of us who are self-confident and mature enough not to feel threatened by this remarkable young woman should step up to defend her against the conspiracy theories, and remind people that they are using dangerous lies to pile into a 16 year old.
