A great American, who was wrongly criticized for many things.

RIP.
Koch gave $1 billion to charity.

$1 billion. He was definitely one of the most charitable people on the planet.

And it was often not to conservative outlets.
This included Hundreds of millions for cancer research. In 2006, he gave $20 million to Johns Hopkins.

In 2007, he contributed $100 million to the MIT. $15 million to New York-Presbyterian and $30 million to the Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
He gave tens of millions to art foundations (not typically a conservative bastion) including the Met.

And gave hundreds of millions to educational efforts.
You can not like his politics...but he was a great American who tried to make the nation better.

Don't let your political prism obstruct that.
Yes, he was flawed. I think he made mistakes. Who hasn't?

But making he, and his family, out to be the liberal boogeyman was always stupid.
We too often hate Americans for their political beliefs, instead of looking at how much intent they had to make things better.

David Koch was one of those men. He tried to make the world better...maybe incrementally, but still.

RIP, and prayers to his family.
