Protests, strikes, boycotts. These are tactics. Tactics do not belong to one side in a conflict. There's a really common tendency now to fetishize tactics and aesthetics over material analysis, which is what led to 'socialists' supporting Solidarność for instance
The CIA is very aware of this and promotes it heavily. Don't fall for this. Some of these 'socialists' would have been supporting the '73 Chilean truckers' strike, a tool used by the CIA to further squeeze Chile's economy under Allende. 
(documents later released have proven those 'left-wing newspapers' entirely correct by the way)
And remember, we can't wait for the 'official' proof to come out. We have to learn to analyze these situations in real time, and make the correct conclusion before it's all over.
