Hey, all! I know Rob and if this is what I think it is, this is going to be a great piece of lost video game/programming history that any number of publications would be lucky to have. Anyone know a good home for it? CC: @Nicole_Cliffe? @Quinnae_Moon?
@Nicole_Cliffe @Quinnae_Moon Like, this is an absolutely dynamite story. I want him to sell it because I want to read it, I want it to be read, and I want to be able to write a short story loosely inspired by the seed of the actual events with a free and clear conscience.
@Nicole_Cliffe @Quinnae_Moon I just don't know who to point him to try to sell it. I know people with contacts in journalism and game journalism, but I don't know where the market for this story is. If anybody has any leads for him, it'd be great.

Tangential to previous thread, but sometimes I think one reason why elaborate forms of sexual play are so engrossing is because adulthood doesn't offer many other opportunities for play, period.
Like, we can all play games, we can play around, but there has to be context to just *play*, and kink gives it.

It can be imaginative play, play-acting. You can make up rules. You can even sit at a little table and play with dolls and stuffed animals.

If you provide a context.
People wring their hands over kids getting engrossed in video games instead of play, but I am way more worried about the vanishing of playtime from schools (and childcare that is increasingly curricular in nature).

You ever think about how human adaptability, endurance, and the fact that it takes a long time to completely destroy our bodies and minds makes it possible for literally every single aspect of our society to be unsustainable?
We have a generation of school children who are being traumatized by guns and shellshocked by drills, while being overworked and overwhelmed and taught to the test, normalizing crunch and cram...
... and then we send them to colleges that statistically speaking no one can afford or jobs with wages no one can live on, either track requires working too much, sleeping too little, and eating calorie dense and nutrient poor food when they can.

What Dr. Moraine is talking about here is part of what I've been talking about recently about the idea that institutions have a user interface.

Most people going through grad school are doing it for the first and only time. The process needs to be newbie friendly.
The whole arcane system of funding higher education, where we make it unsustainably unaffordable and then partially fix that with a hodge podge of partial solutions that almost work if we're willing to work participants a few years towards an early grave creates misunderstandings

The discussion about pay in video games journalism appears to be bubbling back up again.

So here's me attempting to give some thoughts on a) why pay is so low and b) some thoughts on how to change the situation.
The base level analysis of it is that writing/creating content about video games is a passion project. Therefore, it's easier to pay less (or not at all) because there are loads of people out there willing to do it.
This, I think, is partially true. When I started out, I was willing to take an absolute pittance for a few thousand words to get started out.

(1) The extreme accommodations being offered by Grassley & Mitch are the greatest #BlessYourHeart in history.

They know she will NEVER repeat her allegations under oath.

They know the votes next week WILL be 11-10 then 51-49.

They know Kav will NEVER be impeached.

(2) OK I used a little poetic license in Tweet #1. They can't know exactly what the votes will be; there's more than one way to #ConfirmKavanaugh next week. Any judge *could* theoretically be impeached on a new issue, but IMHO Kav is the least likely person ever to commit crime.
(3) I've had it with all the shrieking over this confirmation. No, ongoing Democrat slime ball tactics to undermine Kav once he's on the SCOTUS are not going to succeed. Haven't you learned this by now?
