Couple more observations.

The relationship between Jews and New York has been irreparably damaged. The most likely scenario is that the city doesn’t really do much and Jews are shown they’ll always be The Other, that even in America they have limited rights and protections.
The other, less likely scenario is that the city steps in to protect the Jews, proving they could have done so all along and would in general prefer not to. Additionally, it shows the Jews to always be at the mercy of the govt’s whims. That they’re subjects, not citizens.
And it gets worse. NYC has the ability to stop this, it’s just choosing not to. But this also means that the major American Jewish organizations are essentially powerless. “What do you expect us to do?” is a cry of defeat. If there’s nothing you can do then disband. Worthless.
This may sound harsh. It’s intended to. A government that lets the Jews be subjects not citizens is not a government worth anyone’s respect. Jewish orgs that throw up their hands when Jews are being stoned in daylight aren’t worth anybody’s donations.
And the last additional point is that what’s happening in Crown Heights is a *pure* demonstration of what antisemitism is. Look away if you want, but this is antisemitism stripped to its essential core. Keep this graf from the Tablet piece I linked in mind:
The politicization of antisemitism has brought us to this: nobody knows what to do with bigotry that can’t be blamed on Red Team or Blue Team. But this is antisemitism’s true nature. A land gets stressed out and lashes out at the Jew. It’s instinctive, embedded in DNA.
While you’re saying “the true party of antisemitism is X and not Y,” history laughs. You fools. You just don’t get it. You genuinely do not understand what’s happening in front of your face or why. And worse—you don’t want to. ‘Twas ever thus.
