Was reading @bariweiss’s excellent book over Shabbos and she gets at a point I was making Thursday: the apologetic Jewish response to antisemitism encourages victimization. Enough supplication, enough letting haters distract with lies about us ‘shutting down legitimate debate’
How much wasted time letting the victimizers control the conversation by making the Jews the bad guys and having us explain ourselves? Absurd. Ignore the anti-anti-Omars. Enough of the ‘trembling Jew.’
When you say “You’re shutting down legitimate criticism” and “criticizing the occupation is not antisemitism” I hear: “please mute me, I have no desire to argue in good faith and am untroubled by antisemitism.” Noted.
