My sister got a call from the @gtbank customer care registered line 08039003900. The lady on the line quoted her kids account & said they wanted to link them to her own account so she should go to her internet banking to create a password via a link sent to her email. #ScamAlert
She was largely distracted on the call but said 'ok I'll check my mail'. On opening the mail, this was what she saw. The mail looked legit, it supposedly came from intops@gtbank.com, it quoted the Gtbank website and the customer care numbers. But it was a scam email. #ScamAlert
How are they able to do this? Technology. The ability to mask the true destination of the site via hyperlink. Same goes for the call. What saved my sister was just having that extra bit of skepticism. She decided to call the same customer care line they called her on and spoke...
....with a verified customer care agent who confirmed that the call did not come from GTBank and that GTBank will never call to provide such detail or ask the customer to do anything of such. I suspect that these kind of scams will increase as we get closer to Dec. #ScamAlert
Just a few tips.

1. Always look out for the padlock sign to confirm the site is secure.
2. Even if the site address is okay in the email, allow your mouse hover over it to see the true destination. If on a smart phone, refer to "1" and check the address carefully. #ScamAlert
3. The fact that u received a call from what appears to be the registered customer care number of a bank is not sufficient reason to let down your guard. Call back on the verified numbers to reconfirm
4. Suspect Everything. Consider every email, sms & phone call a scam #ScamAlert
5. The moment you received any unsolicited call, email or sms from anyone purporting to offer assistance to you or confirming details of your account correctly, suspect it as fraudulent & report it to your bank. For GTBank customers, the email is- complaints@gtbank.com #ScamAlert
*it is fraudulent
