It might be a weird thought, but when people tell me that black people don't have any representation in anime, I actually scratch my head in question of them, what anime they likely HAVEN'T seen, & more so what representation they're looking for lol

As a member of the black community, being a black anime fan & so forth, I feel as though we do have representation, it's just more or less that to some... anime is still a "niche" if you're looking at the more unknown series or two, as opposed to the mainstream media that people

have become fond of, so I'm going to assume people want it in the big named anime, be it Black Clover, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc. Nobody is going to settle it for from an obscure anime which no more than 500 people out of 100,000+ have heard of right? I dunno it's just a

weird thought I had in the back of my head because I was having a conversation with a newcomer to anime, she just started watching it really, saying that the only representation of a person of color in anime to her, as she sees it, is Casca from Berserk.

I told her there was far more than that, but then she asked me, "Are they mainstream?"

Does it have to be mainstream for it to be representation...? Kind of... weird if you ask me, honestly. I'm not going to deny anyone of their opinion that our representation may be limited in

Japanese animation at times, but... what do you expect really? They're going to tell stories of the people they see every day, the stories of the people around them, not just anyone out there in the world, but someone they connect to you know? It's not to offend or anything.

Just a thought at the end of the day. I hope it doesn't bother anyone. I just think people who want representation shouldn't always just want it from mainstream media. Do some digging, you'll find some great things out there, I know I sure have.
