I love books, but I have no shame in admitting that I find YouTube videos to be a great way to learn new things. As someone who makes educational content available on YouTube, I hope you feel that way too! But there’s a catch…
Getting what I actually want out of YouTube means constantly fighting with the recommendation algorithm. For every video I watch, I end up clicking “not interested” on 2 or 3 videos. If I forget, I quickly find myself staring into a bottomless pit of clickbait and conspiracies.
Sometimes YouTube recommendations go from annoying to sickening, such as watching an athletic contest and immediately being recommended videos that remix athletic footage to sexualize the female athletes.
