1) It is much more convenient to increase taxes than it is to increase the efficiency of tax collection. So the PH Govt passed the TRAIN law. Inflation went through the roof. Data c/o The Star and @jcpunongbayan's analysis
2) Because of the higher taxes the bulk of the political poor / masa / SEC D (61% of the PH population who live on less than $10/day BUT have voters ID'S) cannot afford enough rice. So the Rice Tarrification Law. Really effective based on @jcpunongbayan's researcv
3) Multiple economists and the new DA Secretary Dar himself have written and published in many newspapers the next necessary step that should have been started 2-3 years ago...
3a) reform the National Food Authority
3b) better governance
3c) invest in modernizing agriculture, aquaculture, and mariculture

See rice roadmap summary & analysis here by @ProfRUM of the Ateneo School of Government:

4) according to the Agri-Agra law each PH bank must invest 25% of their assets in agri, aqua, and mariculture. Unwilling to risk ₱1.24T ($2.3B) per year (total to be invested nationally) each bank pays an average penalty of ₱832M/yr. bworldonline.com/compliance-wit…
5) Meanwhile our data at @IgniteImpactPH shows that 74% of Filipinos live below the national poverty line, 13% in extreme poverty. 68% of that 74% are farmers and fisherfolk.
6) Fine, Oxford and the World Bank agree that we're the 2nd fastest growing emerging market. business.inquirer.net/265379/oxford-…
7) But we're 2nd to the last in terms of extreme poverty (UN SDG 1 - measured at % pop living on 1.90/day or less). Thailand and Malaysia have eradicated poverty in the last 10 years.
8) Danny Fausto of DVF dairy eradicated poverty in the town of Talavera, Nueva Ecija by giving each small older farming household 2 milking carabao (water buffalo) each. You can now by their products in major grocery stores. Photo credit to Danny.
9) the PH is most exposed to natural hazards in ASEAN but only 6th in coping capacity. Still proper disaster risk governance by Mayor Arquillano and effective use of the purok (neighborhood) system ensured ZERO casualties on Camotes Island post-Haiyan
10) There are good people in Govt. There are good people in the private sector. And because @bamaquino and the SEC have developed crowd funding regulations, you can fund projects that work for #TeamPhilippines business.inquirer.net/274269/sec-oks…
11) We cannot simply complain without knowing all the facts. We cannot simply act while disregarding the data. This is our country, we might not be able to control our leaders but we can register to vote for the 2022 elections (until 30 September).
12) We can invest our money in our farmers through crowd-funding via sites like World Economic Forum Global Shaper Patch Dulay's Spark Project
thesparkproject.com
13) We can BUY Filipino (please check label that it is actually MADE in the Philippines). I proudly use Happee toothpaste and URC, White King, Century, & Human Nature products. Though I have boycotted Enrile's Delimondo corned beef much to my sadness.
14) There is something we CAN do even in our own small way. Our first obligation is not to lose hope. As Dr Jose Rizal said: "if you seek to help the Filipino people you must first forgive them". Keep the faith in #TeamPhilippines. Many of us toil quietly w/o fanfare.
15) colophon: many thanks to @aoicheska our associate at @IgniteImpactPH for all the analysis and infographics for our data.
