Since philanthropy is in the news:
I started a GoFundMe to donate money to @Give_Directly, a worthy nonprofit that gives cash transfers to people living in extreme poverty in East Africa.

@Give_Directly I kicked it off with a $500 donation, curious to see how quickly we can hit a $5k goal.

@Give_Directly Skepticism of cash transfers is reasonable
But this is a serious nonprofit, they've studied the impacts of unconditional giving in Kenya and it's very very positive

@Give_Directly Homeless vets are a very worthy cause - but they aren't the only philanthropic cause out there!
The average recipient of a @Give_Directly cash transfer is living on roughly sixty-five cents a day

Not so with this organization - they give cash straight to poor families
