Today’s video game narrative writing assignment was dialogue to motivate a character leaping between rocks along a cliff.

...my script involved collecting unobtainium.
And licking rocks for mineral ID.

Write what you know, eh?
Meta-Note:
I had a moment of panic when the prof announced the in-class assignment.

“I don’t write fiction! I can’t do this! I’m taking this class to learn how to imagine instead of report!”

But the clock was ticking as my cursor blinked, so I typed, deleted, revised, rewrote.
Its ok to have a shit first draft.
Every first draft is shit.

Turn it in to a better second draft, even if it’s only minutes later.

Then edit, edit, & edit again. Edit until you run the clock out, because you’ll never be done making it better but you can ge done enough.

Help?

I have a lock for a mineral storage cupboard that
1. Functioned normally a few hours ago
2. Popped open without entering the combo
3. Now WILL NOT close

Anyone encountered this before? Simple fixes?
FYI:
Replacing it is NOT the simple solution in this circumstance Because Reasons.

The context is long & boring, but fixing quickly to be at least temporarily workable is highly prioritized.
Things that haven’t worked:
1. Re-entering combo (or near-misses, or scrambled, or...)

2. Thumping it. (It’s a geo department. We’re good at hitting things hard.)

3. Any lubrication we have available on the necessary timescale.

I usually campaign for #Biotite as a sad substitute for #Muscovite, furiously accusing #Apatite as living up to its name as the Great Deceiver.

But mica is still in the cup & Apatite is absolutely #TeamShiny.
#Biotite is also #TeamShiny and I very much appreciate the easy ID, but with moscovite still in the running I’m cool with it staying in Round 1.

Much of the modern emphasis on validating feelings is valuable. It could even be considered a welcome corrective to previous eras characterized by harmful emotional repression. But in excess, it's also detrimental, especially to the life of faith for Christians. /1
For example, at least several times a day, especially lately, I feel things like fear/panic, anger, disgust, isolation, powerlessness, and despair. The temptation I face is to let these emotions lead me--in prayer, in relationship, in activism. /2
And if I believed Christianity were a religion characterized primarily by individualistic belief and action rather than historical, communal, sacramental wisdom, then I'd let those emotions lead me all the time. B/c they're powerful & feel more real to me than God sometimes. /3

Hello I have a point to make about women, internalized misogyny, and social media platforms.
Something you (I) hear women say a lot is “I don’t get trolled like you do.”

There’s an inherent judgment in this: Maybe you have too many opinions, maybe you’re too loud about politics, maybe it’s your fault in some way.

And: It’s not. It’s structural. It’s a biz model.
Trolling is about engagement.

Like Willie Sutton, who robbed banks because "that's where the money is,"

trolls and sock puppets and swarms SPECIFICALLY target people with high follower counts, verified checkmarks, and engaged followings because that's where the engagement is.

I think it's about right. There's the human psychosocial element, in that we've had 54 years of Communist ideological subversion in the US in a non-stop, largely unopposed, high intensity level that's been denied & obfuscated by most folks. Either as nonexistent or a benefit.
Those that have denied it have ignored all the evidence of it as well as the serious ramifications of it's effects. Those that are all for it, think the subversions they've accepted as a better way of thinking, behaving, living & believing don't even realize how warped they are.
The Counter Active Measure Campaign began several years ago starting on youtube. It first started as an intentional operation from folks who knew of it's nature and origin, though it wasn't mentioned & videos showing 3rd wave feminism & mocking it ruthlessly using logic popped up
