VW at $100/kWh batteries already?
I would like to see more proof, but with the rapid advances in batteries it's entirely possible.

Suppose you take the ID.3 with 370 km real range and 62 kWh battery. That battery would cost ~$6000 but would easily save you $0.1/km in most EU countries (depending on price of charging and fuel costs).
If the car lasts 300k km (and why not? sciencedirect.com/science/articl…) that would save you $30k for an investment of $6k...
Put differently: if you drive 20k km/yr you would get back the investment in the first 3 years...
Now VW will not sell it to you for $100 right now because they must make a profit and want to earn back some R&D investments. But marhins in automotive are thin and the rest of the drivetrain will be much cheaper.

Some good corrections in my thread: this is probably the cell price so you must add 25-50% for the pack. And better to add 20% for VAT. That makes it $150-180 (still excl. profits). Sorry!
