On the morning of my 3rd day of freshman orientation, my panicked mother called me and told me they had flown a plane into some buildings in New York, which wasn't too far from campus. It made no sense. Who was they? What buildings? Planes? Why planes? Why? 1/
Nothing that day made sense, especially not the looping footage we all watched in someone's dorm room of the planes flying into the Twin Towers over and over again. It was numbing and non-sensical. "It looks like the movie 'Independence Day,'" I kept saying over and over again.2/
A plane hit the Pentagon, another - a field in Pennsylvania. They found anthrax in the Princeton post office. My mother send me a down jacket, a flash light, and several types of antibiotics. She cried and cried in those days: the universities were next. Nothing made sense. 3/
There were kids in our class who lost people in the attacks. I don't remember who. I don't remember much, except watching those planes repeating their strange flight, and the numbness of those days, the fact that nothing at all made any sense. /that's all
