This, from @vermontgmg about communication on 9/11, is fascinating. The gulf that has been opened in under 20 years feels like 10 generations, and I kept thinking about how instantly polluted the information pool would be now. And that we've lost something wired.com/story/pagers-p…
I'm from one of the last pre-Internet generations. Email was barely a thing when I was in university. Me and @SolarNerd and @pixel_bender connected the @Ubyssey desktop computers with ethernet cables and it felt like the future. We are all now 100 years old, electronically.
I joke sometimes about cutting the undersea cables that carry the Internet with laser saws, but let's be honest: I don't know how to operate a laser saw. I'm an old man, born before the world completely changed. I guess I could Google how to use one, though.
I'm going to go to bed now, and dream of my childhood when I thought, I wish I had a little computer that had a map of everything: streets, shops, movie theatres, everything. I would never get lost with that thing. It would have been a better idea had I been able to make it.
I mistagged @thesolarnerd! He is a very smart person but short, so in university he and I were basically Pinky and The Brain
