If a woman is buried in black, she will return to haunt her family.
🥖 During the days of public executions in France, local bakers would turn a loaf of bread upside down, designating that it was for the executioner. Taking it brings bad luck and even death.

💀There’s a lot of superstitions in which wet hair = death.

Some birds are thought to steal souls from people who are dying or to act as psychopomps, carrying the souls of the dead to the afterlife.

If swallows are perched on a home or church, they are deliberating which soul to take.

Belief in the supernatural was common in the Middle Ages & special powers were sometimes attributed to certain objects. The use of the mort (dead) bell was typical of this belief, rung for the recently deceased to keep evil spirits away from the body.
