Here’s a perfect encapsulation of why we have a mass shooting crisis and why we can’t accomplish common sense gun reform: gun culture is about supplementing insecure male egos and making them believe they’re going to singlehandedly battle overwhelming government forces.
We don’t talk about these things because it’s complicated, but our shooting crisis is built on toxic, fragile masculinity and a stew of myths, including the New World Order myth and the militaristic myths we receive in media, including movies, shows, and video games.
The GOP and their partners the NRA stoke these myths for political power and financial game. They promote a dystopian reality that reinforces these men’s worst fears and grandest visions of self-delusion. This clip, from the network that organizes the myth, is just instructional.
Part of the myth is inherent racism, that a cabal of sinister forces, mixed with dangerous minorities, are always threatening these men and will come for them eventually. This is nodded toward in ever FNC, conspiracy their broadcast.
