It’s important, as we approach impeachment, to remember this criminal president is being used by white supremacists to push their agenda and interests. This speech is a very, very thinly-veiled appeal to monied, white Americans subverting democracy as demographics shift.
With a few rhetorical tricks aside, it’s almost verbatim the appeals and arguments made by Neo-Nazi, white separatists over the past thirty years. It’s a really startling escalation.
White supremacists don’t care that Trump is inept, corrupt, or that he doesn’t understand the words they’re feeding him. He’s a perfect megaphone for normalizing extreme and dangerous ideas. This is why they fight for him, and why impeachment might bring immense danger.
For anyone who’s studied white supremacist fascist movements in America, this rambling, uninspired delivery masks a truly insidious and dangerous message. It’s a very overt challenge to the idea of liberal democracy in favor of a system of white oppression.
