"Red state vs. blue state" is barely a real thing at all anymore. It's all urban vs rural.
Don't believe me? Just look at any election map.
Here's a thread of some past election maps, showing that the urban/rural partisan split has grown much more pronounced in recent election cycles:

There are a very few areas left where rural people vote Dem or cities vote GOP. But very few. Urban/rural is our fundamental geographic/political divide now, with the suburbs as the battleground.
