#ScholarSunday was a couple of days ago, but I've been having health issues so I hadn't promoted or commented on people you may want to follow or should follow. There's a metric ton of those folks, but I want to highlight people who provide resources for the PhD experience.
Before I met @tanyaboza in real life, I read her blog, "Get a Life, PhD" getalifephd.blogspot.com (Tanya is someone I consider a good friend since we both study Latin American issues and we see each other at LASA, usually). Her blog reminded me I could be a prof AND have a life.
One of the first people I saw unmasking and unveiling the #HiddenCurriculum that seems to elude new scholars who get into the PhD was @JessicaCalarco whose expertise in ethnography and qualitative methods complements her kindness and interest in improving students' experience.
Dr. Steven Shaw (@Shawpsych) is also a good friend (we met in Montreal several years ago, alongside the amazing @prof_nch another good friend and the creator of @AcademicsSay) - Steve's blog …chtopracticeconnections.wordpress.com ("How not to suck in grad school") provides great gems of wisdom.
.@FromPhDtoLife provides an amazing public service connecting alt-ac, post-ac and adjacent-to-academia individuals to those who are pursuing a PhD to open their eyes to possibilities outside of traditional academia. AND she also promotes many other scholars along the way.
.@wendylbelcher (author of #12WeeksArticle, now out in its second edition) often provides tips and encouragement to academic writers. Her book is a must-have bible. amazon.com/dp/022649991X/… (disclosure: I reviewed her book for UChicago providing feedback on structure/content)
Obviously, you should all be following @ThomsonPat for amazing advice on writing, PhD thesis patthomson.net - same for @thesiswhisperer thesiswhisperer.com and for research post-PhD, @researchwhisper researchwhisperer.org BTW Pat and Inger have BOOKS on how to PhD
These are just a few folks, there are many more to add. I've also been seeing initiatives by scholars of color and first-generation, and up-and-coming ECRs to produce public goods, and I'm ever so grateful to the next generation for taking up the mantle. </fin>
