❌MYTH: Pre-settled status means less security and lesser rights

✔️TRUTH: Pre-settled and settled status mean people can work, study, receive healthcare and access benefits and services as they do now

(2/8)
❌MYTH: Pre-settled status is incompatible with EU law

✔️TRUTH: This matches EU free movement rules whereby
someone qualifies for permanent residence after five years

(3/8)
❌MYTH: People getting pre-settled status unfairly

✔️TRUTH: Nobody has been granted pre-settled status without first being offered the opportunity to submit evidence that they qualify for settled status. Pre-settled leads to settled status after 5 years residence in 🇬🇧
(4/8)
❌MYTH: Most of those getting pre-settled status have lived in the UK for more than five years

✔️TRUTH: The proportion of people getting pre-settled is close to official estimates on EU citizens arriving within the last five years

(5/8)
❌MYTH: Too many people being refused

✔️TRUTH: According to internal statistics, there have been over 1.5million applications. Up until the end of August there had only been one refusal.

❌MYTH: Automatic registration, or a ‘declaratory scheme’ would be better

✔️TRUTH: This scheme ensures EU citizens will have the evidence they need in future to demonstrate their rights in the UK
