Good. The principal and teachers who let the arrests happen also need to be disciplined. But something that I haven’t seen discussed yet is this: Turner was a school “resource officer.”

You know—the guys who are supposed to be the thin blue line of defense against mass shooters.
Resource officers are being used to discipline children via the law, as opposed to school rules—juvie lockup instead of school detention. The result is that they’re not being seen or seeing themselves as protecting kids, but policing them.

I suspect that doesn’t make kids safer.
As states staff and arm up resource officers instead of taking guns out of society, we’ll see accidental—and maybe not accidental—shootings of kids by officers. Incidents like these point to why it’s inevitable.
