My morning will revolve around fossil fuel subsidies and how taxpayers foot the bill to pollute and destroy their own planet. Story to come for @CourthouseNews.
@CourthouseNews One of the bills to be discussed during today's House Natural Resources subcommittee hearing is the Methane Waste Prevention Act of 2019.
It directs @EPA to maintain methane regs that reduce overall emissions from new oil and gas facilities.

It also orders the Interior to update protections for maintenance issues like leaks or flares on public lands. There's an oversight requirement too: more reporting on cost analysis, i.e. how much gas are we emitting and how much does that waste cost?
The hearing on this bill comes roughly a month after EPA suggested doing the exact opposite by proposing a rule to remove federal inspection requirements for methane-well, pipeline and storage facilities leaks.

@CourthouseNews CORRECTION: The House voted 228-191 in favor of adopting a RULE that calls for resolution to send DNI whistleblower complaint to House and Senate. A debate will unfold this afternoon, final vote on res around 5PM.

Regret the error, all. A lot of moving parts this morning.

BREAKING: The Senate has voted 54-41 to terminate President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the southern border and to stop the diversion of military funds to pay for a wall along the border.

@CourthouseNews Note: This is the second time the Senate has voted to do this. In March, Congress voted in favor of blocking emergency powers on border dec. but @realDonaldTrump vetoed it and the House could not override him.

doesn’t make much sense to talk about redirecting fossil fuel *subsidies* to clean energy, cos vast majority of our considerable subsidy for fossil fuels doesn’t really work like that. But we can & should retilt them to have the opposite effect to what they do now. Read on (1/n)
Firstly there is no official definition of a fossil fuel subsidy that everyone agrees on. Semantic slipperiness applies and it can all become very tiresome as countries like the UK tried to find their way out of subsidy. Read my blog about it neweconomics.org/2016/07/the-lo…
For me the fundamental point is: is an economic tool being used, on purpose, to make the economics of fossil feels better than it would otherwise be? Answer: yes, all over the shop.
