Growing up, I was taught in church and popular culture to expect an apocalyptic showdown with satanically evil globalist forces determined to undermine the country and plunge it into civil war.

The New World Order conspiracy theory has merged with white identity Christianity, itself an invention of a post-civil rights split in the church. The white identity Christianity is entirely focused on this oncoming war and have treated it as complete fact for generations.
It is a cult. Pure and simple. There's other way to say it. And like many cults, they are determined to get the war they've been expecting. These things have a tendency to happen if a group wants them bad enough, or at least overflowing in tragedy.
I'm not sure Trump understands this. I doubt he does. He understands self-preservation and I think he literally believes the globalist idea that is the New World Order rebranded. But he's signalling the people I grew up with, consciously or unconsciously.
We have a real tendency in this country to write off crimes committed by white people as one-offs, as if they're not systematic. I can tell you, if we turn our back on this heightened state of danger, we could be in big trouble. There are people more than willing to lash out.
It doesn't mean Trump will get his civil war, or even that it will be widespread, but I can tell you that PLENTY of people believe in the New World Order conspiracy and believe they have an individual duty to fight against it. All it takes is a few to cause unbelievable damage.
Listen to people raised in the church. The warning bells are going off like crazy. The narrative of an apocalyptic war is being pushed HARD and there are undoubtedly many people listening.
