The AIs don’t even take over a small city, much less the planet. Most of the time they solve problems by doing nothing. There are giraffes but only the AIs can see them.
I should clarify lest this sound too interesting: there aren’t any giraffes. The AIs are just convinced that there are.
And also sometimes the AIs solve problems not by doing nothing, but by falling on their faces
