Here are my early thoughts on the @IPCC_CH #SROCC report.ipcc.ch/srocc/home/
The difference between RCP8.5 (high CO2, “business as usual”) and RCP2.6 (aggressive decarbonization) is striking. Under 2.6, we change for 30 years, then stabilize. Under 8.5, the changes keep coming and every year gets harder and harder.

I hadn’t thought much about deoxygenation of the ocean until #NCA4. This is an area of research to watch. I suspect many observed temperature impacts on ocean life are actually related to oxygen. @OceanForecaster @JohnFBruno
#SROCC defines marine heatwaves relative to an unchanging baseline. This means that eventually, everyday is a heatwave.
In our #OceanSurprise paper, we let the baseline shift, approximating adjustments in the ecosystem or by people to rising temperatures. The “right” perspective depends on the impacts you’re tracking. pnas.org/content/116/37…
Nice detailed coverage of Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (#AMOC). This is a big part of the current warming pattern in the North Atlantic. Explains warming in NW Atlantic/Gulf of Maine and Barents Sea and cooling south of Greenland.
Wow, the projected ecosystem impacts are tough to read. Declines in primary productivity and therefore total amount of marine life is expected to decline.
We are rapidly creating a world that is incompatible with the existence of marine habitats like coral reefs. I’m weeping as I write this sentence.
