Police report into northern B.C. homicides says Bryer Schmegelsky and Kam McLeod recorded videos admitting to killing all three victims - but gave no motive for the crimes
13-page report details investigation into murders of Lucas Fowler, Chynna Deese and Leonard Dyck last July as well as the investigation into the two killers ...
Among the details ... gun casings found at the scenes of both murders matched the guns that Schmegelsky and McLeod ultimately used to kill themselves in northern Manitoba
They apparently bought one of the guns - a semi-automatic rifle - on July 12, the same day the two elementary school friends drove off in McLeod's Dodge truck from Nanaimo
Police believe that the crimes were not pre-meditated and that there are no other suspects ... they believe that the two shot Fowler and Deese on their way up to the Yukon and then killed Dyck on their way back down
They stole Dyck's money and vehicle, which they tried to disguise using electrical tape to make racing stripes ... the digital camera that contained the videos belonged to Leonard Dyck
Police say this type of murderous "partnership" is very rare ... police say they will NOT be releasing the six videos that were found on Dyck's phone out of respect for the family ... but also so they won't inspire others to commit copycat crimes ...
Among the other chilling details is the fact that a witness may have run into them on the Alaska Highway two days after Fowler and Deese were found ... one male "started moving towards the witness in a tactical or hunting stance. The truck also started driving slowly ..."
It looks like July 22 was the day when everything broke in terms of the investigation ... you'll recall that's the day they went from missing men to suspects ... according to the report - that's when a witness came forward to say they thought the two were capable of murder
It's also the day that a search of their burning pickup truck turned up a container for the same type of ammunition found at the scene of Fowler and Deese's shooting ... the same type used to kill Dyck ...
And it's the same day RCMP near Gillam in Manitoba responded to a fire that turned out to be Dyck's RAV4 ... it was also his camera that the videos were recorded on
RCMP Assistant Commissioner Kevin Hackett describes killers demeanour on videos; "They were cold, they were remorseless, matter of fact."
