The problem for Dems, as allegations of corruption are lobbed back and forth, is that the aura of corruption hanging over the Bidens is the kind the public REALLY hates - people with zero or minimal private sector experience getting filthy rich off political connections.
This is especially annoying to the public because the political elite spends much of its time lecturing the Little Guy that his greed is destroying the planet, his lifestyle needs to become more primitive, and he is somehow responsible for the welfare of vast numbers of migrants.
The corruption of the political class undermines the faith of the elite in Big Government as morally and intellectually superior to the grubby, short-sighted private sector. In reality, Big Government is the biggest, greediest, most short-sighted and corrupt mega-corp of all.
People who are told they must surrender more of their money and liberty to an ever-growing State that controls more of their commerce and daily lives are keenly interested in whether the masters of that State are venal and corrupt. It's a logical concern, not just resentment.
The people of the world's remaining free nations have noticed that every socialist, communist, authoritarian country is loudly obsessed with "fighting corruption" but never seems to run short of corruption to fight, even with absurdly tyrannical legal systems at their disposal.
Also, the public knows that political corruption is hideously inefficient compared to private-sector "greed" and produces nothing of value to the common man. Political corruption tends to DESTROY value. It siphons money out of the free economy to pay for political favors.
I suspect left-wingers have been so busy posturing as Heroes of the Common Man through biased media and pop culture that they don't realize how utterly fed-up the common man is with multi-millionaire socialist politicians and climate-change lectures delivered by jet-setters. /end
