It’s certainly true that NYT detected and reported Giuliani’s involvement in Ukraine last May, but retconning the angle of those stories and outright denying they led with *and independently vouched for* Rudy’s now-debunked theory of the case isn’t going to fly.
That said, even if the main angle they chose didn’t deliver, it is extremely important reporting that eventually informed the whistleblower’s complaint and NYT deserves credit for it—especially this story. nytimes.com/2019/05/09/us/…
Even ten days ago, Ken Vogel was still saying that the “story here” was about a campaign liability for Biden, and the way Rudy was inserting himself into it was simply “not helpful.”
