@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai "Do it yourself" publishing has been LIBERATING. You don't notice how "traditional" publishing warps your approach to science until you leave it behind.

Arguably the biggest advantage: I can focus on "how can I advance my field?", rather than "how can I get into a good journal?"
@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai I can focus on "how can I best communicate these ideas?", instead of "how can I get this past reviewers?".

I can focus on "how do I maximize impact?", rather than "how do I maximize impact factor?".
@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai I don't have to wonder if an idea or a result or a tool is "big" enough for a paper, I just judge if I think it would be useful or interesting or worth reading for my peers.

I spend zero hours a year and zero dollars and zero stress fighting my way through journal acceptance.
@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai ...and I can update these documents whenever it makes sense, instead of waiting months (or years!) for improvements to add up to a "paper"

@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai And, of course, you can also share "traditional" results, but with all the ingredients you need for 100% reproducibility:

@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai It took a little thought to develop a workflow that works for me (@ZENODO_ORG for DOIs and persistence, HTML and supporting files served via @github and GitHub Pages for ease of access and development).

...but the payoff has been profound. I'm never going back.
@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai @ZENODO_ORG @github I get more readers, more impact, more flexibility and control than I *ever* did with traditional journals. And I'm not inexperienced with traditional journals!

@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai @ZENODO_ORG @github Ok, that's enough for now. Thank you for attending my TED talk.
@dopaminator @KaushikLab @arshukla @DeepakNModi @Sandeep_1966 @ViditaVaidya @Sci_Lipi @thattai @ZENODO_ORG @github (p.s. it's also nice not being paywalled out of MY OWN PAPERS anymore.)
