NEW: We obtained emails showing that John Gore made misleading statements — and perhaps outright lied — about his communications with a Chicago Republican Party official. Now Sens. Whitehouse and Leahy are calling on the Justice Department to investigate: americanoversight.org/former-top-civ…
In response to a lawsuit brought by @BrennanCenter and @protctdemocracy, Gore signed a declaration that his interactions with Chicago Republican party chair Chris Cleveland were personal communications and that he did not act upon them in an official capacity.
@BrennanCenter @protctdemocracy However, the emails we obtained show that Gore had, in fact, been instructed by his supervisor at the Justice Department to look into Cleveland's complaint regarding an alleged vote discrepancy in the 2016 election: americanoversight.org/former-top-civ…
@BrennanCenter @protctdemocracy It defies common sense that Gore could have any "personal capacity" communications about alleged voting irregularities - that his boss told him to look into - while he was overseeing the Justice Department's voting rights office.
@BrennanCenter @protctdemocracy "Mr. Gore's credibility is already under scrutiny," the senators wrote. "This new evidence suggests a pattern of possible misconduct that should be thoroughly and promptly investigated." whitehouse.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…
