Spiegel says it will be 10 years until there are popular AR glasses, and Snap could beat Apple by starting on phones. (Sounds like a decade of risky spending). 2/
Snapchat’s CEO confirmed his legal team made a Project Voldemort dossier of Facebook’s anti-competitive behavior since there was so much to keep track of. 3/
Spiegel says the Voldemort dossier includes Facebook suppressing Snapchat content & #Snapchat hashtags shared to Instagram, but given anti-trust investigations he wouldn’t comment further😎 4/

The major theme of Zuckerberg's testimony is a clever escape hatch. He distances himself from the Libra Assoc, explaining Facebook doesn't control it so he can't make unilateral promises about how it will work.

-Block all campaign ads
-Allow only generic campaign ads with no assertions

Today we learned about the Trump Admin’s latest proposal to cut #SNAP that would leave millions of people, including struggling families, seniors, & people with disabilities, with less help putting food on the table. Here’s a thread on what all of this means 👇 👇
It mirrors an Admin legislative proposal that would have cut #SNAP benefits on net by $4.5 billion over 5 years. Benefits would increase for a small number of households while nearly 1/5 would face an average benefit cuts of $30 per month.
The proposed rule marks the Admin’s 3rd effort to cut #SNAP through regulations **this year alone**, following 2 proposals that they estimate together would take SNAP away from nearly 4 million people.

I feel the need to take time out of my busy packing for a 2 month trip to talk to everyone about Authoritarianism (A14M) in Open Source.

A14M is rampant in open source as a system of technical project management based on politics as a means of attracting true believers.
Contributing your free time to a project where you are potentially going to have no return on your time invested is a high risk for people.

Open Source projects have to use propaganda and A14M to convince people to follow them to glory. This creates toxic group think community.
The method usually used is to invent some form of "humiliation" that your project fixes. Usually it's something dumb like "Events over Threads" or "Java's Type System" or "Closed Software". Once a humiliation is voiced this gives the project an enemy for the community to hate.

@eugenewei Two beginning premises:

1) People are status-seeking monkeys.

2) People seek out the most efficient path to maximizing social capital.

Wei begins with these because few would dispute them but they're also rarely used to analyze social networks.
This is partly bc we lack ways to measure the values & movement of social capital with the same accuracy and precision we do financial capital.

But "social capital is, in many ways, a leading indicator of financial capital, and so its nature bears greater scrutiny."
