Ridding ourselves of a bad president is similar to the process at the university level. A university president doesn’t need to commit a crime, with proof beyond reasonable doubt, in order to be forced out/fired.
Reasons university presidents have been fired:

Being financially irresponsible

Being an a$$hole

Being incompetent

Being a liar

Ruining the reputation of the university
☝🏻None of these are necessarily criminal. But they are certainly good reasons to fire someone (with massive amounts of documentation, of course).
If someone is unfit, and/or is putting the university in danger of complete ruin, the board has a responsibility to do something about it, just as our Congress does with POTUS.

The same logic applies to safety/security.
If an ordinary citizen is careless with their finances, it mainly affects only them and/or their family. If a university president is careless with finances, it could tank an entire local economy, or affect a hospital’s ability to run their ER.
If an ordinary citizen is terrible at planning and decision-making, they run out of clean shirts before the end of the week. If a university president is terrible at it, it could mean students studying abroad get stuck in dangerous situations with no help in sight.
The president is someone who’s been chosen to work on our behalf. It’s not his right; it’s a privilege. If he isn’t doing his job, or is really bad at it, *we* have a right to do something about it.
In short: impeachment isn’t a criminal process. It’s a political and constitutional process to do something about a bad president. Crimes can certainly factor, but they’re not the bar to clear.
